The 1970 Philadelphia Textile men’s basketball team authored one of the most dominant seasons in program history, finishing with an outstanding 29-2 record and capturing the national championship with an impressive tournament run. The Rams opened postseason play with a decisive 79-52 victory over Youngstown State, followed by a defensive showcase in the Sweet 16, defeating Ashland 45-28. They continued their dominance in the Elite Eight with a commanding 101-53 win over American International, before advancing past UC Riverside 79-63 in the semifinals. In the championship game, Philadelphia Textile secured the title with a 76-65 victory over Tennessee State. Standout performers John Pierantozzi and Carl Poole earned All-Tournament Team honors, while legendary head coach Herb Magee—later inducted into both the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame and the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame—guided the team to its historic achievement.
